Sound Forth the Trumpet!

Dear Family and Friends.

I'm a little short on time so this will be quick.

The other day we were walking down the street and we heard a horn blow... Sister Farmer and I set out to find what was making this sound. We saw a man across the street and concluded that it was coming from him and the musical instrument he was holding in his hand. I waved and thought nothing of it. We round the end of the street and walked past his home again, this time he was just finishing a bike ride around the block. We stopped him and asked him about his trumpet. He said it was a Shofar which is a biblical horn used to warn or to inform. We struck up a great conversation with him and set up a return appointment. He met with us and told us that there was something different about us and that he feels like we were truly led by God to find him. He is very active in his own church, but has committed to read the book of Mormon and be baptized if he knows its true. His name is David Smith! Hopefully this week we can get him to church so he can feel of the spirit that is there.

Elder Anderson Visit.

We had a general authority visit the mission. We went to Philadelphia

for the conference. Elder Anderson was great. He enlightened us in

many subjects. It made me really want to focus on teaching the

doctrine of Jesus Christ. We had a man Joaquin come to church brought

by members. He is super solid. If he doesn't get baptized I'll be

shocked. Very humble. They actually asked him to pray at the end of

the meeting in priesthood. I don't think they realized that he wasn't

a member. It hadn't happened in a while for me that a member brings

someone. It's a real blessing and were going to do our best to take

care of him. You should forward the other letters Bobby sends I did

see the one about the German ancestors and then the Romanian family.

Last weeks and this weeks I didn't see. Going back to the main point.

We had a celebration for the independence of Mexico Guatemala and El

Salvador. We had super good food. Carne asada so that you have some

Spanish in there.  It took almost the whole day to have everything

worked out. Because we were going to do it in the park but it rained

almost all day so we did it in the church. Did I tell you the church

used to be a bank? I met a lady from Brownsville Texas. She was very

nice. I'm still trying to figure out why and how the Hispanics end up

here in jersey. They all work in the fields and factories. It makes it

hard to meet with some of them but it also helps us know who the

prepared people are. Those who are willing to make time for God in

their lives. Time's going too fast I am doing what I can to make the

best of every moment and fulfill my purpose.

Dear Family, 

Well a lot and a little happened this week. We had a great experience finding Maximo again. He was the one that had come to church. We were able to teach him the restoration and he says that he wants to be baptized. On October 19th. Yay!  I'm excited for him. We will see how well he does. He likes church and reading but this week he fell asleep in church. It's okay it happens to the best of us. It was a long church and he works all week. Oh well he still feels like he had a good experience. We talked to a man about the Book of Mormon on the street and then he took us to his house and we taught him the restoration. His friend started to try to go after us though saying that we need to use  the bible more granted. We had already used four verses such as Amos 3, James 1:5, Amos 8:11-12, Ephesians 4:11,12.  He came in after we asked him something and  said ok ok ok, let's put the pamphlet down and talk biblically. So he was going on about how the bible is only 66 books and how he doesn't read about Joseph Smith in the bible and how there will be false prophets. I answered by asking him if he was reading in the bible first, and how that doesn't mean that Joseph Smith doesn't exist because I don't read about him in the bible. We then explained foremost the importance of prayer and reading the Book of Mormon to know the truth. Then we read Matthew 7 about "By their fruits ye shall know them." And Isaiah 11:10. He still wouldn't let those same questions go and so I pulled a sermon like response like in John 8. Basically we told you the truth and you would not hear. We explained better the lack of authority they had and the lack of logic by using the examples  that Christ's name doesn't appear in our Old Testament but we know it talks about him. It also doesn't talk about any prophecies of Paul until it happens in the New Testament.  The other guy that invited us over still wanted to read the Book of Mormon so that was good. Lots of stuff, but that's the story I chose hope it was a good one.

Family and Friends!

This week was a really good one! frustrating, but good! According to our district leader we need to step it up (to be honest that never changes though. We ALWAYS need to step it up), but we feel like we accomplished exactly what the Lord wanted us too. We are overflowing with potential and we just need to have the faith that we will be able to make it happen.

No updates on Carla yet. She's going through an awful lot, but we are planning on meeting with her this week.. It's hard being patient when people say they need time when we know what they really need is the healing power of the atonement.

I got bit by a wiener dog this week. I've never wanted to kick something so bad, but I had to remember that he was one of God's beautiful creations. That and I was wearing a tag and I didn't want the owners to have bad feelings toward the church. Nevertheless I completely another thing on my missionary bucket list!

Dear family and friends,

This was a good week! We got two more baptismal dates for October 11th! Theony (pronounced t-o-nay) and her daughter Marie. The Lord has helped us find all these people! Two weeks ago, me and Elder Garrett were frustrated because we literally had nobody to teach! But we decided that one week we were just going to find and prayer extra hard for the Lord to give us people to teach. The first week we still had nobody, but the next week we had people finding us and it seemed like everyone we talked to wanted us to come over and teach them and within 2 days we had 10 new investigators which is a lot in our mission for two days! The Lord is answering our prayers and I am so grateful for the Lord's work! It is literally His work we are just the vessels for him to do His work! I am so grateful that i can be apart of that and watch the Lord's miracles first hand! Sorry that it is kind of short but I promise next week I will have more to talk about ha:) Thanks for all the prayers the headaches are gone!
