Dear Family,

Well another week flown by!!! I hope you all have had a fantastic week! I am praying for you all. Not all by name, of course,  that would take my whole day.  Sorry about that:) Well we had a good week here in Pforzheim! We taught a family who are investigators. It was a really good testimony builder and confirmation from the spirit that this church is true! This family won't read the Book Of Mormon because they feel that we only need the Bible.  They feel like the Book of Mormon is not equal to the Bible, and that they would be inviting an evil spirit to read such a book. We testified that we can't say it is true or not true until we have tried to read it. We also explained to them what it means, and if this book is true that they should at least try to figure it out before they just toss it out! They accepted to start reading in the book. They said they can't promise they will read the whole thing, but that they we definitely read 2 Nephi 29 which gives the perfect explanation for why the Book of Mormon is good!! Cant wait to see what happens!!!! Then on Sunday I gave a twenty minute talk in German.  It was really scary but I was able to do it! That was really cool:)

Family and Friends,

For for those of you that don't know already The Ohio State University has had a pretty successful year. They are National Champions and the whole state of Ohio is still celebrating it... Now I'm just a whole lot closer!!

I'm serving in the OSU 1 area with Sister Slater. Sister Phelps and I received a call that we had to pack up all our stuff and head to Columbus in the morning and now here I am. It's been a long past couple of days, but so much fun. Sister Slater and myself were doubled into the area so currently we don't have anyone in our records, but there are thousands of people out on the streets to talk to everyday.. I love it so much!

Sorry this is a quick email this week, but there will be much more next week I promise!

love you all!!

So this week we had a little bit more luck finding people to teach. The Hispanic family we taught last week was there and they were excited to listen. They didn't come to church this last week because the wife wasn't there to meet with us last week and she wanted to know what we were about before they showed up to church to be more comfortable. The lesson went really well and was done in Spanglish. She doesn't understand all the church English words. It was really good and she was excited to get her own copy of the Book of Mormon in Spanish. They are on their way to conversion. Shane is getting there too but wasn't able to come to church. He still wants to be baptized though so we will be helping him learn all that that entails.  So these will be the big pushes this week.  I did exchanges with the zone leaders and the Elder I went with was six eight and from England so it was a bit different. He is funny though. We played basketball on Saturday night and that was good. Because of that we were able to hand out two copies of the Book of Mormon. It was warm enough this week for people to be out mowing their lawns. I am studying the Book of Mormon and making a map of all the territories and cities by relative position described in the book and it's shaping up nicely. I'm in Mosiah chapter twelve so when I get to Alma there will be a lot to put in. I don't think I mentioned it but I finished Jesus el Cristo a couple weeks ago and I learned a lot from that. Hopefully I can keep up this pace of study when it's not all structured out for me. Well thanks for being awesome everyone. Especially you Kimberly Ann!

Family,

Well I made it here to Pforzheim safely. I will miss Landshut so much but I know the Lord needs me hear in Pforzheim! Well, my companion´s name is Elder Bonnke and he is german! So we talk german 24/7 and I love it! I need this so that my german will be better!! I am also the senior comp here so that is cool haha:) that doesn't really matter though! The branch here is pretty small but they are great! We have a lot of fun here, and I am still getting used to having a normal size apartment where I can go to a different room for sleeping eating and studying! Well not too much more to talk about other than our sweet golden investigator!!!!!!!!! She comes from Italy, but has been in Germany for quite a while! She is so ready for the gospel! We have had two really good lessons and she asks a lot of good questions and then learns and accepts the principles we teach her! She comes to church when she say's she will! I cant wait to see what we will have happen! She is just so ready and she knows it too!!

Dear Family and Friends,

So sadly the reign of Sister Phelps and Sister Love will probably be coming to a close. Unless a miracle takes place than we'll be together another transfer! We'll know by Wednesday.

The coolest thing about a mission is that we can put our trust in transfers because we know that they are coming straight from our Father in Heaven himself. I love that about a mission.

Not too much to report on this week. We are working with some of the greatest people. I love them so much. I have learned so much about true charity working out here... mostly than I don't truly have it yet, but also how much you can love just about anyone if you see them the way that God does.

He loves us more than we know.

We both got super sick this week so on Thursday we both were confined in our home. Sister Phelps ended up sleeping in the bathroom for half the night haha poor thing. The next couple of days we had so many members feeding us that our stomachs continued on rebelling. This week we have one member feeding us.. funny how that works.

I hope you know that I love you all so much! Have a fantastic week and read some scriptures while you're at it!

Love,
Sister Love

Dear Family,

So this week lots of random things happened and lots of things didnt
happen. On Thursday we had a zone conference in dover which started at
nine and went til almost six o clock. It was soooooo long and
uplifting but long. haha Its a drive of about 1hr 15 min from our
place. luckily i was in the back seat this time. We learned about goal
setting and what we are going to do with the upcoming year. They are
still putting emphasis on putting names with numbers and not just
hoping to reach certain goals. Planning is involved very much so with
that. Um Shane the man we found last week is reading the book of
mormon and his friends say that he is changing a lot already and that
he is happier. He was looking for work and found a couple odd jobs to
do so we had scheduling problems and couldnt see him. But were still
excited to see that he is progressing! On Sunday we knocked on a door
that we had knocked a good 7 times and they always have something
going on and cant let us in for a lesson but this time they did and it
went super well. They understood things and asked real questions to
us. It was amazing. When we gave them their own copies of the Book of
Mormon they expressed genuine gratitude because they hadnt really
received too many gifts like that. We taught a lot of less active
lessons this week. One was a person that was really into science and
assumed that we had 0 answers for his concerns. After talking with us
he decided that he wasnt as prepared as he should have been and we
brought him to the conclusion that he needs to experiment upon the
word again. He has hope and wants to be able to believe but has kinda
fallen into mysterious paths away from the rod of iron.  For all this
his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. We
are here to learn and to grow and there is a plan of salvation
prepared for us if we choose again to accept it. God is just and
merciful but you have to understand the whole plot/plan before you can
jump to conclusions.
heres a link to anyone and everyone to come join with us and we will
learn and grow together!

Querida Familia y Amigos!

Gotta love Google Translate... That is probably all wrong. We have taught 3 Hispanic families this past week and I'm so sad that the gift of tongues doesn't always work immediately.. but we will get there!

This week was a really good one filled with tender mercies.. and disappointments.. as usual missionary work is never one smooth sailing journey.

We are working with some amazing people right now that haven't made the decision to fully commit to living this Gospel yet. It's so hard to see them in so much pain and so much in need of the Savior's healing atonement, but God has given us agency for a reason. It really makes me grateful that I was raised going to church.. It might be hard being a part of the church, but from what I have seen I can promise you that it is a lot harder out of it.

There is some REALLY exciting news we just got word of today. about 45 minutes west of me is the Marion Branch. It is the oldest branch in the history of the church and we have just received word that it is becoming a ward!! Elder L. Tom Perry's first area on his mission was Marion so of course he is coming to see this happen!! In honor of this exciting news President Daines sent us all a story of Elder Perry's first experiences as a missionary in Ohio.

“I was assigned to serve in Columbus, Ohio, just after I had arrived in the mission field. I knew absolutely nothing about missionary work and my senior companion, who had been out only three months, knew little more than I did. I had always been strong in the Church, and though my testimony had never been tested, I surely thought that it could never waiver.

“Well, my first full day of proselyting was spent going from house to house. We didn’t have much success until a kind Southern Baptist lady invited us into her home. She had a profound knowledge of the scriptures, and I’m afraid that my companion and I could not counter her persuasive arguments. I went home that day a converted Southern Baptist.

“The following day was not much better. I went home a converted Methodist. And the next day I was swayed toward the Lutheran faith. I finally decided that this kind of thing should not be happening to a Mormon missionary. I decided that before I could teach and bear testimony about the gospel it was first necessary that I know something about it myself.

“My companion and I lived on the top floor of a four-story rooming house. The landlady had granted us the privilege of using the kitchen, which was in the basement. I decided that each night I would go down to the kitchen after my companion had retired to bed and prepare a talk, beginning with the first four principles and ordinances of the gospel.

“The first night I studied and prepared a talk on faith that I presented to my audience: a mouse that I had coaxed out of his hole with a cracker. He stared at me for a minute, picked up the cracker, and went back into his hole.
“The following night the subject was repentance. The mouse came out and listened to me for some time longer than the night before, and then returned to his hole. I was making progress.

“The third night I came down and filled the dishpan with water and washed some dishes before I prepared my talk on baptism. Again, my friend the mouse came out of his hole to hear my presentation. He stood there and stared at me the whole time, and when I was finally finished he walked back to his hole in deep thought. I was a bit proud of myself as I walked upstairs, knowing I had really impressed my audience.

“The next morning my companion and I went downstairs to prepare breakfast and I noticed that I had not emptied the dishpan of water I had used the night before. I was greatly surprised when, at the bottom of the pan, I found my friend, the mouse. My little talk had really made an impression. In his stupor of thought he must have crawled into the pan: baptism by immersion!”

I love you all!! Have a fantastic week!
Love,

Sister Love

Family and Friends,

Elder Riley is from Idaho he started the same time as Elder King. We
have been getting along great. I have had 5 companions from Idaho. We
had two people at church this week. They are from Haiti and the wife
speaks a little Spanish and the husband even less in English. So we
say everything twice and then she will usually translate to French or
creole. Takes a lot of patience but they are excited to get baptized.
They are just waiting on paperwork so that they can be married. So
life is good. It is raining pretty hard today but it was freezing on
Wednesday. No bueno. But it warmed up again to the high forties, low
fifties. We found a man named Shane who has lost a daughter mother and
grandmother to death the last year, his wife just took
off, and he is getting evicted. His life is rough. Because of that
he has been opened to receive the gospel. Hopefully he can make it to
be baptized in March. We have to give it our all because you only have
one life worth living. 2015 has seemed to be a hard start for a lot of
people that we teach in Salisbury. But I have been doing well and
we get to play basketball here. I'm trying to get the video from the other night
because some people from the Adventist church came to play and their
buddy was filming the game. It was sweet. Oh and there are streets
here named Adventist street, baptist street, etc.  I have come to
realize that old white ladies that are not already members are not
interested and to never knock on their door again. Haha that's why we
stick to the Hispanic families. But yep life is good in the hood.

Family,

Also, diese Woche hatten wir Versetzung Anrufen. Ich werde nach Pforzheim versetzt werden. I am leaving Landshut!!!!!! I am so sad about it! I love the people here so much. So much I just cried the whole time when I had my farewell testimony. This place will forever have a special place in my heart! I have grown so close to the branch, but a better word is FAMILY. I can seriously call these people family!! They have done so much for me and they are all so strong in the gospel and I have learned so much from them!! It is going to be hard leaving this place. But I know that the Lord knows best and has called me to pforzheim. I don't know how to put my emotions into words right now ha, but I will say I had an amazing time here in Landshut and very grateful for the opportunity I had to serve here!!

Dear Family and Friends,

Well we had a fun week here in Landshut! We had Silvester which is just New Year´s but Trotzdem it was a lot of fun!! We were with our branch president and had a lot of fun playing a kindergarten game!! haha It goes like this... Mein rechter rechter platz ist frei ich wünsche mir den Elder Barnhart dabei. which means my right right place is free I want the Elder Barnhart by me. And then he says als was soll ich kommen. which means as what should I come. and then I would tell him what he has to be like a snake or a penguin and he has to act like that when he comes to sit by me! It was so funny! There was one of their grandpas there and he got told to be a sloth and he was the perfect sloth!! He had no emotion on his face and walked at a snails pace and acted like he was climbing a tree and then would stop and look at everyone in the room with a look of what is going on around me and his face just made it even better I wish I had a picture it was so funny! then we went outside and lit up fireworks! It was way loud but a lot of fun as well! Then we went home and tried to go to bed but at midnight it was too loud to go to bed so we just watched everyone light their fireworks!! But yup that is the event of the week! Thanks again for all the support you guys give it goes a long way I promise!!

Learning a new skill... and pimped out my ukulele with a lot of stickers!

Sister Bailey Love January 6, 2015

Dear Family and Friends!

I only have about 5 minutes to write to all of you, but there has been so much that has happened! I hope that I can just cover the just of it.

We had interviews with President Daines just yesterday. What an inspired man he is. I'm so grateful for the guidance and the motivation that he gives this mission.

We had a pretty long interview (which is not something to necessarily be proud of) We laid it all out on the table and I learned so much. We talk about all my doubts and fears and any questions I have had. I asked him if a mission is more for the growth of the missionaries than really helping others. He said that as far as he is concerned the mission is always about the missionaries. He teared up talking about how much God loves His missionaries. He followed up with "As far as you are concerned. The mission is about everyone else."

"but President, I feel that I have grown so much and I haven't been able to share that blessing with anyone else"

He threw his fist down on the table and said

"If you are growing, it is because you are serving others."

So if any of you feel complacent: Go out and serve someone else! You are promised blessings in return!

We also found the most amazing Hispanic family to teach the Gospel to. The Father invited us to go to his church as well, but they are so excited to read the Book of Mormon. I will hopefully have more updates on them this coming week!

Love you All!

Como estais vosotros mis hermanos?

We had a great week. We used the old records to find a bunch of people that used to be investigating the church that for some reason or another got lost. We got back in contact with them and we are getting some progress. We found one lady Reina that had come to church multiple times and then was lost. Year later we come knocking and she wants us to come back and she wants to come to church. Daniel was lost  months ago but since then by himself stopped smoking and drinking and doesn't already live with someone who is not his wife! he came to church on Sunday and plans on coming again. We found a few hispanic peoples that are really nice. They are from el salvador and they finally understood everything we told them. After explaining Joseph Smith she was like yeah that could totally happen it would be just like moses or noah...Thank You! So yep life is getting better. It was 70 degrees yesterday. But it'll be cold this week. That is probably the biggest benefit about being down here in Maryland. That and all the restaurants in the world are here. We taught a lesson well I taught a lesson in portuguese and spanish mixed. That was interesting. Its surprising how much you can still put together just knowing spanish. But yep thats my week and I hope you all have a great one as well.
